About Louise

knitting instructor & designer

For almost as long as I can remember I have been in love with knitting.

I am not entirely sure where this passion came from; was it from the sweater or skirt my Mom knit for me as a child or was it watching Grandma knit Icelandic sweaters? I really don’t remember. What I do remember are the hours I spent with Mom and Grandma trying to learn how to knit. The stumbling block was I am left handed and these hours spent learning to knit were in front of a mirror so I could see everything backwards! I’m pretty sure you will all agree with me this isn’t the way to learn to knit. I didn’t make much headway.

That experience didn’t deter me and I eventually met a woman who didn’t worry about me being left handed and just taught me to knit and this is the approach I now take with my left handed students. My first project was a baby blanket that was misshaped and full of holes but I loved it and I still have it. So when I say if I can learn to knit so can you, I truly mean it.

Over the years I practiced my knitting skills and continued to learn new techniques. I began teaching knitting classes at local yarn shops (no mirrors involved!) and began designing my own patterns. Now you can find me co-hosting the Fibre Friends Podcast on Youtube, still working as a knitwear designer and traveling to Fibre Festivals and yarn shops teaching a full range of knitting classes.

I look forward to meeting you at an upcoming event and remember to always check your gauge!
